Siblings

I love my siblings dearly! I am very grateful that God has blessed me with them, but there are times when I wonder if there was any way I could curb their tongues! :D

My biggest issue lately when dealing with my siblings is all the things that they tend to talk to me about or share about with other people.

I am not sure if it is just me or if everyone with siblings feels this way about their own siblings at one time or another or if this might just be something that comes with being the oldest in the family, but then it might just be the size of my family, who knows.

What I'm talking about are those times when I am holding a discussion with friends at church and one of my sisters starts talking about something that I did ten years ago, which might or might not have something to do with what we were talking about, but what we are talking about happened to remind them of what I did (for the first time in that ten years of course) and they just had to share it--No matter how much I did not want it talked about!

Then there are the times when they have to share with me what they think I should be doing, be it school, reading, toddler teaching, babysitting, or when to get married!! (As if they knew anything about that! lol) The advice never seems to stop coming my way.

Or the times when I am talking with mom and when there's a lull in the conversation she asks about the discussion that went on during Sunday school the day before and wants to know about why I was close to yelling and wasn't I over reacting just a wee bit? (I wonder, was I yelling and did I over react or did my sister add a little to that story?) But, then that didn't just happen once, I have questions out of the blue like that and I not knowing what she is talking about, all because a sisters passed something on and stretched it a wee bit.

I have come to a few conclusions in the past few years (esp. more so, as I have gotten more sisters old enough to give me 'advice' or 'tattle'' on me)--1) My siblings were definitely given to me as blessings. 2) My siblings were definitely given to me for my sanctification and 3) My sisters were given to my given to my parents as an easy way to find about all that I do.

And all of this has made me think that I might have to really start thinking all more carefully about what I do and how it will look, but not how it will look to any onlookers, but how it would look to my ever present, always watching, and sometimes over cautions sisters. :D

Time Alone?

If you read my mom's blog you probable read her posts about the questions that she gets about being the mother of a large family. Well being a member of that family and esp. because I am the oldest I get my fair share of questions.

The one that I think I get the most is "When, if ever do you get time alone?!?" I laugh and reply with "All the time! All I need to do is walk into my room and lock the door! Or stay up late or get up early.". :D In any case I do get time alone, I did this morning, over two and half hours worth.

I had to get up early this morning for more than one reason....I needed to do my laundry and diapers for Seth and I wanted to get them started before everyone else was awake and telling me what they needed washed for markets tomorrow or Church on Sunday.

Also, I wanted to make some Capra-Cino, I have let down one too many people at market because I didn't have any. So, to make sure we had enough 'plain' milk and to do the Capra-Cino, I had to get going real early so we can have our pizza and possible movie tonight. :D Not, to mention early to Bed. :D

So, I got up an hour before anyone else and started laundry, and then headed out to the dairy where I pasteurized 19 gallons of milk. As I cleaned the processing room (washing any dirty dishes, clean the floor, wipe down the processing table, etc.) and labeled any product that wasn't labeled, I took the quite time to listen to R. C. Sproul's CD of the month (This month is on the book of Revelations).

Towards the end of the CD I realize that it is very quiet and what I am noticing is what people mean when they ask if I ever get time alone. I start wondering if this is what I really want and like.

About the time when I start thinking that if it continues in the same quite pattern that I just might go "stark raving mad". Noah sneaks into the dairy (Making him the second person awake in our family today), wraps his arms around me and says "I LOVE YOU K K!!".

After, I get over my fright, I realize that having time alone might be a nice thing, if you are used to it. But I am not and I miss having my siblings with me. Really, who could pass up time with Noah while he cleans the floor without being asked and wipes down tables, all because he saw you working and wanted to help you?! The entire time he is cleaning he is also chattering away about Judah this.....And Seth that....And why do I do this....And mom said....

It's after about thirty minutes of just Noah and me time, while we clean, sing, and talk that I realize that there might be something in this alone time.....And that is when there are two boys under the age of 5 in the same room playing!!! LOL

Farm Sitting

Two weeks ago some very good friends of ours asked me to farm sit while they went to the reenactment of Brice's Crossing. I gladly agreed to do so, and headed over to their place Monday the 8th.

We went over what I had to do chore wise and drove around their property to see what new things they had done since the last time I was there in February. All in all it looked to be a fairly easy job and something I knew my sisters would love to help me with.

Make sure that all automatic waters were on and working, make sure the automatic feeders were full, double check fences to make sure the animals stayed in the correct pen or on the correct side of the fence, and pick all veggies from their 1/2 acre garden that were ripe. No biggie! I would get to drive the mule, bring a sister or two to help and have it knocked out with an hour, something I could easily handle!

But as happens a lot in life I learned that things are easier said than done. lol

On the first day, one of their dogs decided to disappear. We are guessing she went to make a nest for herself since she is due to have puppies any day now. But knowing where she was would have made me feel better. :D But I never saw hide or tail of her, so the owner said to not worry about it either she was fine and there was nothing she would let us do about it or she wasn't and there was nothing I could do about.

Then on day two I had to go get the cows back on the correct side of the fence, it took a few minutes but it was something to show how my life has changed in the past five years.

On day three the cows got out again, I did the same as I did on day two muttering under my breath "Chasing cows? At the age of 15 I KNEW that is what I was going to be doing when I was 20. YEAH RIGHT!!!" A few minutes later I notice that all the cows are in the other neighbor’s back 40 aces! Great!! More cow chasing, I just need to figure out how to handle this!

On day four I went to try and corral some lose cows, the entire time muttering "Good fences make good neighbors" and "Chasing cows?!? Am I dreaming this? Man has my life changed!" I never did get them on the correct side of the fence, but our friends said to leave them there and they would pay the man back.

Then yesterday on my last day of farm sitting I pull into the pasture to check the hogs (who are due any day to have piglets), I look up to see one of the cows lose on the correct property of all things! Not to mention all the other cows are in their pen happily grazing on grass! Am I seeing things? No, they are all their, thanks to their neighbor (I am guessing), I went to check the fence and found that it was fixed.

On my way back the mule decided that dusk would be the perfect time to finish its gas supply. So, there I sat at the back end of 40 acres out of gas and realize I have to go the front end of the 40 acres to get the gas. So, I hike myself up there thankful that I enjoy walking and realizing it would be the perfect time to thank God for mules and the gas that keeps them running. It took about ten minutes, but in those ten minutes it was enough for the sun to completely set and for me to realize that pasture and woods are just as enjoyable in the dark as they are during the day. :D

Other then the cows deciding that they didn't want to be on their side of the fence and the dog disappearing, all went well. We had some of the best strawberries ever, as well as some great farm fresh green beans three nights in a row. :D And on top of that I was able to help some friends while they went on vacation.

Did I learn anything this week, besides the fact that I should check the gas on all vehicles I am driving before I go anywhere? Yes, I learned that we need to make sure our fence is solid if we ever get cattle and that my life has changed drastically in the past five years!!

Oh, boy!

These up coming four days promise to be fun! :D Between now and Saturday our days are PACKED!!

Today, tomorrow, and Friday we have to make two batches of yogurt, one batch of chocolate milk, possibly a new drink, and pasteurize plain old white milk at least once if not twice!

As well as go to yet another new market tonight in Collage station, called Brazos Valley Farmers market.

Friday and Saturday I have a conference. I am going to be a vendor with Swede Farm Naturals product. :D I need to make a few things for this and pack everything so I won't be worry about this late tomorrow night or way to early Friday morning. :D

Saturday we have two markets, Bayou city and Grogan's Mill.

Not to mention we still have a farm, animals, and children to take care of! lol That just never ends. :D

Oh! And did I mention that today is Emma's 11th birthday! :D HAPPY BIRTHDAY EMMA!! (I will do another post just for her latter, after I have made a few candles for the conference. :D )

So, please pray that we don't go crazy, get sick, or overwhelmed and that we all have fun during Emma's birthday, markets, conference and anything else that we have to do the rest of this week. Thank you!!
