Not only did I wake up to the news that I would have to be doing water clean-up and house maintenance, I also woke up to it POURING! And it poured for the next five hours! Now, we are sitting on Island Swede Farm in the middle lake Swede Farm.
But, the sand is doing its job!! The goats are all high and dry thanks to 6 & 1/2 loads of sand that we got two weeks ago and that was spread last Monday.
I sure wish some of that was spread between the dairy and the house as it's still a little wet in that stretch of land and we either have to walk through water or hop, skip, and jump from the dry areas to the cement blocks that we have spread out to try and keep feet dry as the water is no longer warm, but rather chilly thanks to this cooler weather that we have been having these past two weeks. :D
Now, just as long as it doesn't rain where ever I have a market. I'll be happy!

It Rained!! No, Rather It Poured! :)
We got rain last night; boy did we get rain last night!! We had some in the early afternoon, just enough to make everything take cover and for us Carlson children to play in it. :D
Last night around seven, a friend from church, dad, mom, and myself were sitting on the deck watching the storm come in. Right when we decided to go into the house, because the lightening was getting a wee bit close and the wind was really going we saw the sheet of rain, some of us made it inside in time while a few who stopped to make sure a couple things were covered did not.
In the end it got so bad we had to move some animals out of their flooded pen, lightening struck way to close for comfort (as in I thought it was in the horse pen), one time when running towards the dairy the rain was coming down so hard that I couldn't see the dairy from the house.
We ended up with a tree on our garage (now have a hole in our garage roof and we all know what my family will be doing this holiday weekend), Someone got stranded on the street in front of our house, and their trailer ended up partly in the woods.
And all of this while we had company sitting in the living room, he was great about it, held a rabbit while we moved its flooded pen, and calmly waited for dinner.
But, we are not complaining!! We count ourselves blessed that the tree didn't fall on the house or the dairy, that none of the animals were hit by the lightening, that it was not a hurricane or tornado (both of which have hit our place in some way), we didn't lose power once, and that we are all safe and sound--Playing in the puddles. :D

RAIN!!
It just rained for a full hour and not just a little bit here and there, but a full fledged, out and out, soaking pour for over thirty minutes!! :D
I think the last time it rained this much at one time was back in early June! It sure was nice to see the puddles get larger, the rain keep coming, and to run through it and get soaked. :D
Oh, wait I guess at 21 I shouldn't be running through puddles. :-S Forget you read that.--That is until the next time I say that, as there are just somethings that I just can't seem to give up even as I get older. :D Ask my family, puddles are one of them. lol
Well, I need to go bottle chocolate. The gallons of some of the darkest, richest, best tasting chocolate milk you will taste is almost ready to bottled and I got distracted by rain. You would think I could grow up some day. :)

Rain
I always seem to forget how much I love the rain.
I love the sound of it on the roof as I sit curled up with a good book. I love the sound of rain hitting the leaves as I run outside in the rain just for fun of running though the rain.
I love the smell of rain hitting the hot cement, and warm dirt. The smell of all the plants opening up and receiving the rain, it's a wonderful smell, one I wish I could bottle up and put in my candles. :D
One of my favorite things about living in Houston was all the rain that we got. Yeah, there were times when it went a few weeks without raining and yes there were those times where I did not want to see one more drop of rain!
I loved it when it would rain all day, it would be cloudy and over cast and I sit on my bed with some type of reading and a cup of something hot to drink. Be it a history book or a useless quick read, there is just something about being curled up with a good book and coffee or hot chocolate.
These are still things I can enjoy in the country, but not as much. Knowing that we need to keep an eye on the amount of rain we get in case a low animal area floods, or keep an eye on any so to be new moms, for it never seems to fail that an animal will decided that in the rain is the best time to have a baby.
Some people like their snow, I like my rain! :D And really enjoyed the thirty minutes or so that we got last night and am praying that we will get more over the next few days. :D

It's Raining!!
For the first time in June it's raining! Normally June is our wet month and we get more then our fair share of rain, well this year after a very soggy spring we didn't get any rain for over a month. We are now sitting here with some kids running out and standing in the rain, because they haven't been able to do so for "ever so long".
Now, how long it will last and how much we have is yet to be seen. Hopefully we will get some more between now and Saturday night, so that we can shoot some fireworks. :D
Oh, but not a gully washer! We need the goats to stay happy right now! lol

You Know It's Wet on Swede Farm.....
When at least one of the following things happens in a day....
1) You slip and slide your entire way to the dairy from the house or visa verse.
2) You spend the entire time of your trip from the house to the dairy and back again praying that you can get to the sidewalk safely on both feet without having ended up on your back!
3) You have to go the long way to the dairy
4) The toddlers are always coming in wet and covered in mud
Well, all four have happened here, today alone! lol I slipped and sled my way to the dairy and back again, the long way, praying the entire time I wouldn't fall, not to mention I had to go back a few times to get my shoe that had fallen off as I ran. When I got to the house on more then one occasion, I was met by some some very wet boys.
When we lived in the city I LOVED it when it rained, I loved the sound of rain hitting the roof, the sound and smell of it hitting the hot cement. The look of lightening in the sky and the sound of the thunder right afterwards. The look of everything wet, and those days when we had wind with the rain were some of my favorites!
I am also the nutcase that always wanted a category #1 or #2 hurricane to hit us so I could have a combination of both in a big way. All I got was Tropical storm Allison to come and ruin my birthday party. lol
Since moving out to the country, I still love it. When Ike hit us, I was out at three am watching the wind and rain for an hour and enjoying it ever so much. (I knew all the animals were as safe as they could be.)
There have been a few drawbacks to rain and wind in the country. 1)When those surprise storms come up it's a little hard to enjoy them when you are worrying about the animal,s (Be they the small rabbits or the huge horses). 2) Its also a little hard to enjoy the rain when you know afterwards it's going to mean tons of mopping in the end.
I have no idea how much rain we have gotten in the past two weeks, when it comes to inches. All I know is it's been a lot. We have had a lake more then once in our front yard and have been battling trying to keep the goats dry and clean.
Now, I shouldn't be complaining since Texas is going through one of it's worst droughts in a while. Not to mention with all this rain the burn bans are bound to be lees, so we can burn more (to bad I don't have some fireworks that sounds fun right about now. :-s But I need to wait for the 4th of July and ray we aren't under a burn ban then.) Oh and it helps my garden, so I don't have to water it with a hose or tote water from the pond (that is the BEST water for the garden!)
Just to let you know--I love rain! But only when I am in the city and don't have to worry about animals. :D
